Using an applicator, an intraocular lens is inserted through a tiny incision of 3 mm which is made at the edge of the cornea. Once inside the eye, the lens unfolds and positions itself in either the anterior or posterior chamber. Once this implant procedure is over the incision heals without stitches.
A local anaesthetic is used while the lens is being positioned. The operation is not painful and the patient can go home once it is over, but must keep the treated eye covered until the following day.
In cases where there is astigmatism as well as myopia or hyperopia, the lens implant can be complemented by treating with the laser afterwards. The results obtained with this method are remarkably precise.
