Myopia

Myopia or shortsightedness is a condition which means that you can see things that are near to you well, but objects that are further away are blurred, indistinct or you simply cannot see them at all.

This results from the eye being longer than normal in the anterior to posterior axis. The cornea, which is the layer of transparent tissue in front of the iris and pupil, is also more curved than it should be.
The condition usually appears during childhood or adolescence and stabilises when the patient becomes an adult.

As a rule, refractive surgery is an option for patients that are between 20 and 65 years of age whose myopia is stable and within the range of between –1 to –30 dioptres.
