Tear Duct Disorders
Watery eyes are sometimes caused by an obstruction in the tear ducts which may be related to an infection in the lacrimal sac (in the inner corner of each eye). In these cases an operation called dacryocystorhinostomy is recommended. This consists of opening up a passage between the lacrimal sac and the hole where the tears drain into the nose, so clearing the obstruction in the tear duct.
In the tear duct unit at the VistaLáser clinic the intervention is carried out by a transcanicular method using a laser. Guided by a nasal endoscope, a laser fibre of only 300 to 500 microns in diameter is passed through the lacrimal canal and the lacrimal bone opening up a new passage to drain off the tears.
