Intraocular lenses are made out of an acrylic material which, when implanted in the eye, is completely tolerated by the organism and, therefore, will not be rejected.

Different types of intraocular lenses exist with variations in design as well as the position they are placed in the eye. There are posterior chamber lenses, which are positioned behind the pupil, and anterior chamber lenses, which are placed in front of the pupil. The surgeon will decide which lens is most suitable in each case depending on the characteristics of each eye, which will be thoroughly investigated in the pre-operative examinations using ultrasound measurements of the eye’s parameters, an endothelial cell count etc.
