Technique
Refractive errors are corrected by applying the laser to the intermediate layer of the cornea, the stroma, reducing the tissue in order to change the curvature of the cornea.
This operation is performed with a local anaesthetic, administered with eye-drops, as an outpatient intervention and only takes a few minutes.
In order to apply the laser to the intermediate layer of the cornea it is necessary to temporarily remove the superficial layer, the epithelium. To do this two techniques are used: LASIK or EpiLASIK.
